Police arrest 16 Internet fraudsters after protest against EFCC

The Delta State Police Command has arrested 16 suspected internet fraudster in Ughelli after a protests by them against the Economic and Financial Crime Commission, EFCC.

The suspects were in custody in Asaba as the Chairman of Ughelli North Council, Olorogun Godwin Adode imposed a dawn to dusk curfew in the town.

The state Commissioner of Police, CP Ari Muhammed Ali, disclosed during a press briefing on Wednesday.

Ali said he visited Ughelli to assess the damages done by the suspected internet fraudsters in Ughelli during the protest against the EFCC.

He debunked rumours that the police killed the person who was allegedly shot dead during the protest, saying, “Policemen are very professional in handling situations”.

Earlier report had stated that one person was shot dead as suspected internet fraudsters staged protests against officials of the EFCC over alleged harassment.

It would be recalled that during the protest, the suspected internet fraudsters destroyed several properties and set trucks ablaze.
