Redirect funds to education sector, Kola-Daisi tells FG
Oyo South Senatorial District candidate for Accord Party in the 2023 general elections, Mr. Kolapo Kola-Daisi, has advised the President Muhammadu Buhari administration to immediately redirect the resources of the country to fund education.
Kola-Daisi, a son-in-law of the immediate past governor of the state, the late Abiola Ajimobi, noted that this is necessary to fund basic sectors such as education and health.
He made these disclosures while speaking during a maiden guest forum interactive session organised by the Oyo State Council of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Ibadan tagged ‘The Podium’.
The interactive session, which was hosted by the NUJ Chairman, Ademola Babalola, had seasoned journalists among whom are Kemi Olaitan (Thisday) Femi Atoyebi (The Cable) Femi Makinde (Punch) and an Assistant Director of News NTA, Dunni Ade-Alao as panellists.
The politician’s suggestion came against the backdrop of the strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) since February this year due to the non-implementation of the 2009 agreement reached with the Federal Government.
Kola-Daisi, while answering questions from the panellists, described the ongoing ASUU strike as unfortunate.
He, however, urged the present government to redirect the resources of the country to take care of basic needs such as education and health.
The senatorial candidate who said there are a lot of wastages in the country insisted that the best way to tackle incessant strikes of ASUU is for the present government to block wastages and redirect the resources of the country to tackle the basic problems in the areas of education and health.
He explained that he ventured into politics to better the lot of the present generation which is mostly populated by youths.
The senatorial candidate who said he left the All Progressives Congress (APC) due to the abnormalities in the party’s primary, however, remarked that the Accord party is the only progressive political party in the state.
“There are a lot of wastages in the government. There are a lot of resources to be redirected to certain things.
“We need to find lasting solutions to the problem with ASUU. If they settle ASUU now, the problem will still persist, we need to find lasting solutions. We need to redirect the resources of the country. Look at our exchange rate.
“What I am saying is that we need to redirect the resources of this country. We need to understand that. As a government, it is high time we look at the way and how to allocate our resources.
“Accord is the only progressives party in the state. Majority of the real progressives in the state are in Accord. It is Accord and all other parties”.
