Fears whether Buhari’s quit order to ministers may affect CBN Governor, Emefiele
The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele, may not be left out of the directive of President Muhammadu Buhari to his ministers who have expressed interest to contest for political positions to resign.
President Buhari had ordered ministers vying for any elective office to resign from office forthwith.
The political appointees are seeking the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential ticket at the forthcoming national convention in Abuja.
They must exit their positions on or before Monday, May 16, except Vice President Yemi Osinbajo who was elected.
Buhari gave the directive at the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting, according to Information Minister, Lai Mohammed.
Mohammed was however silent on the fate of aspiring appointees outside the FEC such as Emefiele.
The latest development is expected to affect officials not part of the Federal cabinet.
The information will be conveyed to them this week by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha.
All appointees interested in seats in the Presidency, State Government Houses and the National Assembly will be asked to leave.
“A memo will be prepared and sent out within a short period of time. The position they are seeking doesn’t matter.
“You will be asked to vacate current positions as long as you have obtained forms to contest any elective office”, a source said.
Ministers in contention for APC presidential ticket are Rotimi Amaechi (Transportation), Ogbonnaya Onu (Science and Technology), Emeka Nwajiuba (Education), Chris Ngige (Labour and Employment), Timipre Sylva (Petroleum Resources).
