This is the giant company’s second alert campaign this year, as a similar notification was given to subscribers in 92 countries in April.

Apple said, on its website, that it has sent notifications to more than 150 countries since 2021. “Apple detected that you are being targeted by a mercenary spyware attack that is trying to remotely compromise the iPhone associated with your Apple ID -xxx-,” stated the warning, which was issued specifically to those who were believed to be the attack’s targets.

User reviews indicated that users in India are among those who have gotten Apple’s most recent threat alerts, as similar alerts were delivered by Apple to several national journalists and politicians in October.

Pegasus was created by NSO Group, an Israeli cyber-intelligence company. The spyware is so potent that it is classified as a weapon by the Israeli government.

According to the reviews, “This attack is likely targeting you specifically because of who you are or what you do. Although it’s never possible to achieve absolute certainty when detecting such attacks, Apple has high confidence in this warning — please take it seriously.”

Although Apple keeps the details of how it finds possible spyware attacks secret, indications are that the company does not want to expose its techniques and make it easier for future criminals to avoid discovery.

The tech company does not alaso ascribe the attacks to any government or organisation, if only for similar, if not legal and political, reasons. Its initial warnings did mention “state-sponsored” attacks, but the most recent round of warnings has reduced that to just “mercenary spyware.”

Earlier report stated that Europe’s Apple devices will soon be able to access the Epic Games Store, but as usual, not before a little spat broke out between Apple and Epic.
