Report violations of police escort ban for VIPs, Bwala urges Nigerians

Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communication, has called for widespread public support in enforcing President Bola Tinubu’s directive to withdraw police escorts from private individuals and certain VIPs.

Bwala emphasized the administration’s determination to implement the order and encouraged citizens to document any breaches.

He advised Nigerians to photograph or video any  unauthorized person—such as celebrities or private sector figures—still using police protection against the presidential directive.

He clarified, however, that the withdrawal is not universal. Certain critical government officials will continue to receive security, though possibly from agencies other than the police, such as the State Security Service (SSS) or the Civil Defence Corps.

President Tinubu’s order aims to redeploy police officers from personal VIP duties to frontline policing roles, as part of broader efforts to optimize police resources and prioritize public security over private protection.
