Ilkay Gündogan hangs boot from international football, to leave Barcelona this month

German midfielder, Ilkay Gündogan, is retiring from international football anymore after 13 years of service to Germany .

Gündogan is also leaving Barcelona this month.

Transfer journalist, Fabrizio Romano, said the midfielder will not be playing for Germany anymore and he is also said to be leaving his current club, Barcelona, this month.

Although Barca coach, Hansi Flick, said he expects Gündo to stay at the club, they are exploring options for the post- Gündogan times.

According to Romano on X, ‘‘Ilkay Gündogan retires from international football, he won’t play for Germany anymore.

‘‘He’s also leaving Barça this month as Man City made contact with his camp over potential return.’’

The transfer expert also disclosed that Manchester City had contacted Gündogan’s camp over a potential return for the versatile German midfielder.

‘‘City and Pep Guardiola open to considering Gündo’s comeback.

‘‘Barça wants Gündogan to leave… and he also received approaches from Qatar, Saudi and more clubs.

‘‘Gündogan can leave Barça before the end of the transfer window.

‘‘Not guaranteed yet but his camp has started exploring options for the final days as Barça is open to letting Ilkay go.

‘‘Flick said he expects Gündo to stay but solutions are being explored,’’ Romano added on his X page.
