2027: Obasanjo, Amosun endorse Ogun APC gov candidate Adeola, urge unity
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has called on Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate for Ogun State in the 2027 election, to stay focused on his developmental vision and pursue his ambition with unwavering determination.
Obasanjo gave the advice on Friday when Adeola paid a courtesy visit to his penthouse residence at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL) in Abeokuta. The former President also encouraged all Nigerians to chase their aspirations resolutely while trusting God to guide and fulfill His purpose for their lives.
Adeola’s visit to Obasanjo, along with a separate meeting with former Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, formed part of his stakeholder consultations following his emergence as the APC flagbearer.
Addressing Adeola, Obasanjo expressed hope that the senator’s political ambition would align with divine will, noting that many people often misunderstand God’s plan for them.
“My prayer is that your desires and your ambitions will be in alignment with what God has planned for you,” Obasanjo said. “You see, one of our greatest challenges in life is that we often grow in darkness when we do not know God’s plan for our lives.
“I keep telling people that, initially, I wanted to study geology. I even gained admission to college. My dream was to go to America, study geology, become a great geologist, and work in the oil and gas industry. But that was not God’s plan for me. God’s plan was different. His plan was for me to make progress through the military. That was the path He had prepared for me, and He helped me every step of the way. I pray that God’s purpose for your life will also be fulfilled.”
The former President advised Adeola to remain steadfast in achieving his objectives. “Be focused on what you want to do and what you want to achieve. If anyone has a goal or an aspiration, let them declare it, pursue it with determination, and leave the rest to God and to our people,” he said.
Earlier, Senator Ibikunle Amosun welcomed Adeola and declared that the candidate’s emergence made it imperative for party members to close ranks behind him ahead of the 2027 contest.
“This visit is not about seeking support because the support is already there. We are ready to move forward. When the time comes to fully put our plans into action, I am confident that we will succeed,” Amosun stated, adding that the party remained devoted to good governance and was confident its vision would resonate with voters.
Speaking with journalists after meeting Obasanjo, Adeola said he sought the former President’s blessings, support, and guidance, pledging to incorporate his recommendations into his administration’s programmes if elected.
“I am here to pay homage to our father, the father of the country, former President, our leader in the state and in the country. As you can see, it was a warm reception. We sought his support, his blessing and his guidance, and all these three he granted.
“In his remarks, he made it loud and clear what he is passionate about concerning Ogun State, his expectations for the state and what he believes we can do to put the state on the right track. We have listened carefully to his advice, taken it on board and will make it part of our plans and programmes as we march towards 2027,” Adeola said.
